Why you'll love it

  • Ready in 40 min
  • Everyday ingredients, most of them already in your pantry
  • Tagged: baby-food, stage-1, 6-months, iron-rich, freezer-friendly
Our best tip: Beef is one of the richest sources of the iron babies need. No salt: babies' kidneys can't handle it.

Baby food safety: check with your pediatrician before starting solids or introducing allergens. Never give honey before 12 months, add no salt or sugar, cool food to lukewarm and test the temperature, and always seat and supervise your baby while eating. Introduce one new food at a time and watch for reactions.

Ingredients

  • 8 oz lean beef chuck or sirloin, cubed
  • 1 medium sweet potato, peeled and cubed
  • 1 1/2 cups water

Instructions

  1. Simmer the beef in the water, covered, 20 minutes. Add the sweet potato and simmer 10 minutes more until both are very tender and the beef reaches 160ยฐF (71ยฐC).
  2. Blend with enough cooking liquid to make a very smooth puree. Meat needs longer blending than vegetables.
  3. Cool to lukewarm. Refrigerate up to 3 days, or freeze in a covered ice cube tray, then move cubes to a labeled freezer bag for up to 3 months. Thaw in the fridge overnight.
Notes: Beef is one of the richest sources of the iron babies need. No salt: babies' kidneys can't handle it. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge.
