Ingredients

  • 1 lb ziti or penne
  • 1 jar (24 oz) marinara sauce
  • 1 lb Italian-style turkey or beef sausage, browned (optional)
  • 15 oz ricotta
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella

  2. Stir the ricotta, egg, half the Parmesan and the Italian seasoning together.
  3. Toss the pasta with the marinara and sausage. Spread half in a 9x13-inch dish, dollop the ricotta mixture over, then add the rest of the pasta.
  4. Top with the mozzarella and remaining Parmesan.
  5. Cover with foil and bake 20 minutes, then uncover and bake 15 minutes more until bubbling and browned.
Notes: Undercooking the pasta keeps it from going mushy as it bakes in the sauce. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge.
